A) Chap. 3 1) At the beginning of chapter 3 you can read “ the pursuit of perfection ,then, is the pursuit of sweetness and light…”: a) How do you call such a sentence at the beginning of a chapter? It is an epigraph. b) Do you think it applies to the characters? Justify. If we focus on Trixie, the epigraph is ironic as she is not perfect, she is not nice. Angela is honest, she really attempts (= tries) to be perfect, but she is gullible (naive) so she becomes dependent on Trixie… But instead of helping her husband, she behaves like his mum; it’s unbearable : the doctor (her husband) cannot stand it any more. So perfection is not a good thing (Angela forbids him to smoke, to eat fattening food, let the pets into the house…) 2) Blair (Hamish’s boss) thinks that Hamish is “ half-witted ”: a) Can you give a synonym ?
